The correct storage of dry rice. Airtight, food-safe plastic storage tubs are needed to properly store rice. The dry rice needs to be remove from its original packaging and placed in airtight containers.

Environment

Storage containers that hold white rice are best store in a dark or low light environment with low humidity. White rice will keep a good taste up to one year; it will last for two years, but has fewer flavors. Brown rice containers hold up to six months in the same environment as white rice; but if chilled, it will last longer. Before placing the rice in plastic storage tubs, be sure to wash and dry the containers properly. Tape the purchase date and the original package’s cooking instructions to the storage containers. Keep older rice to the front of the pantry to be used before the new supply.
